Felipe Laurie and Eveline Bartowsky Join AJEV Associate Editors

Bartowsky Bartowsky

AJEV is fortunate to welcome two new editors in 2013. Professor Felipe Laurie, of the Universidad de Talca, Chile, became an associate editor in chemistry in January 2013. Dr. Eveline Bartowsky, of the Australian Wine Research Institute, has agreed to serve as an associate editor in microbiology.

“AJEV welcomes the expertise of these two international professionals and renowned scholars who will add even more breadth and depth to our outstanding group of associate editors,” noted AJEV Science Editor Linda Bisson.

Professor Laurie earned his master of science in viticulture and enology and his PhD in food science from the University of California at Davis. At Universidad de Talca, he is responsible for wine production and enology courses and is director of the master’s in horticulture program. His research areas cover wine chemistry and production, with emphasis on phenolic compounds and the chemical and sensorial effects of oxidation reactions. He also conducts research on the use of smart polymers in foodstuff.

Dr. Bartowsky received her PhD in microbiology from the University of Adelaide and gained extensive molecular biology experience with bacteria as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Umeå, Sweden, and Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri. She is senior research microbiologist at the AWRI, where her research involves malolactic fermentation, bacteria associated with wine and wine spoilage, bacterial strain identification–both classical and molecular, genetics of wine bacteria and bacterial strain improvement, and yeast and phenolics/wine color interactions.

AJEV is also much appreciative of the long editorial tenures of Dr. Thomas Henick-Kling and Dr. Andrew Waterhouse, who recently stepped down from associate editor duties. Dr. Henick-Kling, director of the viticulture and enology program at Washington State University, is now focusing on building up the program, of which the planning and construction of a new Wine Science Center is a central project. Dr. Waterhouse, professor of enology at the University of California, Davis, is now serving on the executive editorial board of the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture. Over the years, AJEV authors and readers have benefited from their handling of more than 200 microbiology and chemistry manuscripts.

Current AJEV Associate Editors also include Eduardo Agosin (Chile), Véronique Cheynier (France), Glen Creasy (New Zealand), Nick Dokoozlian (USA), Brígida Fernández de Simón (Spain), Matthew Fidelibus (USA), Hildegarde Heymann (USA), Markus Keller (USA), James Kennedy (USA), Wendy Parr (New Zealand), Stefano Poni (Italy), Doris Rauhut (Germany), Andrew Reynolds (Canada), Riccardo Velasco (Italy), M. Andrew Walker (USA), Jon Wong (USA), and Enology Editor Susan Ebeler (USA), Viticulture Editor Peter Cousins (USA), and Science Editor Linda Bisson (USA).
