The Wine and Viticulture Department in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California, invites applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track position as Assistant/Associate Professor of Fermentation Science, to begin September 14, 2015. Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.

A Ph.D. in Enology, Fermentation Science, Food Science, Fermentation Microbiology, Biochemical Engineering or a related field is required. Some industry experience and college-level teaching would be advantageous. In addition to a strong interest in undergraduate teaching, candidates should have practical knowledge of wine production and a foundational understanding in brewing and/or distillation. Responsibilities will include teaching introductory and advanced level enology, fermentation, or winemaking courses, supervision of undergraduate and graduate student research projects, participation on the winery or brewery or distillery management team, and development and supervision of the new facilities.

Duties may also include, but are not limited to student advising, teaching graduate level courses for Master of Professional Studies and/or certificate programs, and international programs. The successful candidate is expected to participate in scholarly activities (i.e., applied research, grant writing, publications, presentations), to publish in peer-reviewed journals as part of his/her professional development, acquire extramural funding in support of his/her research, and regularly participate in other scholarly activities. Involvement with the university community, and with local, state and national wine and viticulture/brewing/distilling organizations is expected. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. The ability to collaborate on applied research with faculty across the College and University is desirable.
