The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, in the
College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, is seeking applicants
for an Assistant Professor of Enology (tenure-eligible) and
Director of the Midwest Grape and Wine Industry Institute
(MGWII). The Position Responsibilities are 40% research, 40%
Extension and Outreach and 20% administration. MGWII provides
applied research and extension education to the grape and wine
industry in Iowa and surrounding states. In collaboration with
faculty in food science, horticulture and Extension and Outreach
Field Specialists, the MGWII engages and informs vineyards and
wineries with research-based information to advance the quality
and marketability of wine from the Midwest region.
The successful candidate will engage in scholarship in the areas
of wine production, including quality and processing that
integrates research and extension programs for the wine industry.
Forming collaborative research teams with faculty in food science
areas of microbiology, sensory, chemistry and processing and with
faculty in horticulture on grape production is expected. The
candidate will develop and coordinate educational workshops,
informational guides and online materials to enhance the
production of quality wines within Iowa and surrounding states.
In partnership with on-campus and ISU Extension and Outreach
field personnel, the candidate will provide educational programs
and materials related to grape and wine production.
Administration responsibilities will include supervision of the
MGWII staff and fiscal management. As Director of the MGWII, the
candidate will coordinate efforts with the Iowa Wine Growers
Association to promote and advance enology in Iowa.
