The entire ASEV joins in expressing our sympathies to the family of Dr. Anita Oberholster, who passed away Saturday, January 11, after a long battle with cancer.
A professor of Cooperative Extension in Enology at the University of California, Davis, Anita was a long-time ASEV board member, a founding board member of the American Society for Enology and Viticulture Foundation, and was currently serving as a member of the Unified Wine & Grape Symposium, LLC Managing Committee. In 2021, she was the recipient of the ASEV Extension Distinction Award and served as the ASEV board First Vice President until last year.
Through her scholarship and dedication, she not only played a critical role in shaping the lives of her enology students, but also helped advance the American wine industry through her research and leadership. Her loss is considerable and we owe Anita a debt of thanks for her many contributions. Her passion, humanity, leadership, and dedication to excellence will be sorely missed.
