Position Description:
The Grape and Wine Institute at the University of
Missouri-Columbia invites applications for a one-year
postdoctoral associate position. This position will be a
combination of field data collection and lab based sample
preparation and analysis. Applicant should have a strong
understanding of plant physiology and will be expected to have
familiarity with methods for measuring vine water status, gas
exchange and photosynthetic activity. The applicant will work
closely with field personnel for data collection and experiment
management as well as assist with sample preparation for chemical
analysis. While not required, previous experience with LC-MS,
GC-MS or MP-AES instruments are a plus.
The successful candidate will have good oral and written communication skills, as they will be involved in academic writing and presentations as well as conveying information to the industry through extension activities. The individual will work closely with enology and viticulture faculty on studies that include the evaluation of rootstock and irrigation regimes on vine and fruit quality and evaluating the impact on viticultural practices on the flavor profile of grape and wine varieties important to Missouri.
In addition to collaborators at GWI the applicant will become involved with collaborators from a diverse range of disciplines including evolutionary biologists, grape breeders, remote sensing researchers and food scientists from around the U.S. As many of the sites are away from campus a driver’s license is required.
Qualifications:
Earned PhD degree in viticulture, enology, horticulture,
analytical chemistry or related fields. PhD must be earned by
position start date.
