FULL-TIME LECTURER/Pilot Winery Supervisor

The Wine and Viticulture Department within the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences is seeking a full-time, 12-month lecturer to teach undergraduate courses in the Wine and Viticulture Department and to serve as the supervisor of the pilot winery. Projected start date of July 1, 2015. Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience. A B.S. in Enology, Food Science, Fermentation Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related field is required. The successful candidate must have demonstrated ability and/or interest in teaching at the undergraduate level and significant experience in day-to-day winemaking, winemaking facility maintenance and management, and have experience with winemaking software for inventory and production management. Candidates must also be be able to lift and handle 75 pound wine production materials. This position requires extensive interaction with students, faculty, staff, the general public and industry groups.

Teaching assignments may include courses in enology, winemaking and industry trends. This position is also responsible for a full range of duties including, but not limited to, oversight of the safety and students making wine in the pilot winery on campus and coordination of wine making and grape production for commercial wines produced off-campus. Other responsibilities are the development and implementation of annual budgets for operation of the pilot winery and production of commercial wines, detailed computer record keeping of financial, registry and production records and development and implementation of facility maintenance plans. Supervision of student employees is an additional responsibility. The position will also be expected to establish and maintain linkages with the wine and viticulture industry, obtain donations for production of wines, assist in advising students, participate in departmental events and committees and assist in coordination of research project needs. Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interest in undergraduate teaching is required.
