The Wine and Viticulture Department in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California, invites applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track position as Assistant/Associate Professor of Viticulture, to begin September 14, 2015. Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience. Expertise in production and/or experimental viticulture required. Candidates should have expertise in winegrape production and/or experimental viticulture and strong interests in undergraduate and graduate teaching. Responsibilities include teaching vineyard management and practical vineyard application courses. Supervision of undergraduate and graduate student research projects, participation in the campus vineyard management team and the development of a new viticulture research laboratory is required. Duties may also include, but are not limited to student advising, teaching graduate level courses for Master of Professional Studies and/or certificate programs, and international programs. The successful candidate is expected to participate in scholarly activities (i.e., grant-funded research and peer-reviewed publication) as part of his/her professional development. Involvement with the university community, and with local, state and national wine and viticulture organizations is expected.

A Ph.D. in Viticulture, Plant Physiology, Plant Pathology, Plant Genetics, or related field is required. Industry experience highly recommended and some college-level teaching desired. Candidates should have expertise in winegrape production and/or experimental viticulture and strong interests in undergraduate teaching. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. The ability to collaborate on applied research with faculty across the College and University is desirable. Candidates who demonstrate a commitment to diversity, and who have international experience or the desire to cultivate international links, are of particular interest.
