The Fermentation Sciences Program at Appalachian State University invites applications for a full time nine-month tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning on or after August 1st 2016. This position is listed within the AR Smith Department of Chemistry but the faculty member will report directly to the Director of the Fermentation Sciences program. A successful candidate will demonstrate advanced knowledge of fermentation sciences and have experience or knowledge necessary to instruct courses in bioprocessing as related to fuels, solvents, pharmaceuticals, agricultural and industrial waste or similar applications.
The successful candidate will be required to integrate into the
AR Smith Department of Chemistry to be successfully considered
for promotion and tenure. Integration in the form of teaching,
scholarship, mentorship, and engagement in departmental
activities will be considered; the successful applicant must be
qualified in this regard. Professional and academic experience
specific to fermented beverage production (beer, wine, or
spirits) is critical. Faculty and Staff within Fermentation
Sciences seek a team member to help diversify the student
experience at Appalachian and contribute to the strength of the
academic mission as well as the research objectives of the
program. A successful candidate must be prepared to contribute to
the growth and development of the Fermentation Sciences program
through course development, student engagement and mentorship,
industry outreach, and securing external funding.
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in a discipline directly related
to Fermentation Sciences (e.g. Food Science, Biology, Chemistry,
Beverage Science, Engineering) and demonstrated research or
professional experience in the field. Preference will be given to
applicants with experience teaching and mentoring research in the
area of bio-processing (fuels, solvents, pharmaceuticals,
agricultural or industrial waste, etc.).
