The 2008 ASEV symposium, “Phenolics Substances in Grapes and Wine,” honored Dr. Vernon L. Singleton of the University of California, Davis, for his outstanding and influential career in wine phenolic chemistry. Over the course of four decades that were marked by the publication of more than 220 papers and four books, Dr. Singleton produced a profoundly influential series of works focused on phenolic chemistry.

Serves as a communication channel between exhibitors, the UW&GS LLC Managing Committee, and the ASEV Board of Directors and staff. This committee provides guidance for aspects of the Unified Wine & Grape Symposium and ASEV National Conference. This committee is composed of approximately six exhibitor members to represent a range of services or products and for both the vineyard and winery, as possible. We are pleased to offer the Call for Abstracts for the 66th ASEV National Conference in Portland, Oregon USA. We encourage submitted abstracts based on original research and research updates in all areas of viticulture and enology. Abstracts on nitrogen in grapes and wine research are encouraged specifically for the Nitrogen Symposium. Research related to a wider nutrition theme will also be pertinent to National Conference sessions.
The American Society for Enology and Viticulture (the sciences of winemaking and grape growing) is a 501 (c)(6), tax exempt professional society dedicated to the interests of enologists, viticulturists, and others in the fields of wine and grape research and production throughout the world. Our membership includes professionals from wineries, vineyards, academic institutions and organizations.
The Committee will conduct the following activities per the Board of Directors approval:
Develop a clear scope of goals, focus, breadth and publication entities to be encompassed by the journal including a clear description of each type of article
Consider and make a recommendation regarding two models of publication: (1) incorporate new publication entities as a component of the existing AJEV or (2) create a second independent publication; propose a title for the independent publication should that be the recommendation
Consider type of publishing model: regular specific issues; rolling publication (published as finalized), combination of publishing models
Draft a Guide to Authors patterned after the one developed for AJEV
Develop costing models and obtain proposed cost estimates from HighWire Press and from Editorial Manager (through ASEV staff) for the different publication models; consider other potential models of production (such as print on demand)
Linda Bisson (Chair), University of California, Davis
Strategy for Implementation/Launch:
Propose a slate of Associate Editors for the new journal or publication categories; recommend optimal structuring for that slate (subject area editors narrowly defined or pattern after current AJEV model)
Draft a list of potential contributors who can be contacted and invited to submit manuscripts or other forms of publication
Write a report to the ASEV Board with plan to be presented to the Board in the spring (May meeting), and then a summary/overview report to the membership at the Annual Business Meeting at the 2015 National Conference in Portland if Board approved
We are pleased to announce that Raquel Abad will assume the Managing Editor position that Judith McKibben has held the past fourteen years. Raquel holds a Master of Library and Information Science and was a medical librarian for the University of California, Davis, for the past four years.
